This is a short clip from an intense thunderstorm, recorded from my second story queens apartment from an open bathroom window during the early afternoon of july 15, 2015. Some traffic and airplanes can be heard in the background. This clip was recorded using an apple iphone 6 and the zoom iq6 x/y stereo microphone with a rode dead kitten windscreen at low volume, normalized later. This recording lasts until the battery on my iphone hit 5%, at which point the zoom handy recorder app automatically stopped.

I turned on my recorder just after watching a movie on valentines day. The theatre wasn't packed but people were relaxed. I stood in the lobby for a while watching people getting ready for the next movie, then walked outside through the squeaky doors of the theatre and stood around people having a smoke and waiting for their ride home. I then walked to my car. Panasonic stereo hand recorder, nothing fancy.

Short recording of a car (specifically an suv, but could easily work for a sedan or light truck) driving in from a distance and parking. It idles briefly, and then turns off the engine. Also some light suburban neighborhood ambience (light wind, subtle traffic in the distance). Recorded with a sennheiser mkh-416 into a zoom f4 at 48khz, 24-bit.

This is a long ride on one of san francisco's trolley cars, recorded on 08/25/2015. Evening, past rush-hour, so the trolley is pretty empty. There's some muffled talking on the driver's radio. Great bass and infrasonics!. Recorded with a tascam dr-70d, built in mics. Free to use, but let me know where it ends up!.

This is a sound essay comprised of five 1-minute recordings. Seagulls and other birds are present throughout. Airplanes are heard at 2:07 and 4:22. Carpenters and other workmen are heard more or less throughout. Cars and trucks pass by frequently; trucks beeping as they back up are also heard. Here you can listen to a bike, then a car, by night, on the same straight desert wet road. Note the differences of the sound duration and the sound volume. The night is quite silent, only some discreet water drops. The road is wet. Same mic position (10m high in a metelilic structure 10m from the road), same record level. A thunderstorm in munich, recorded 2020-07-01 in my backyard on second floor on a balcony. It rains, the strikes come closer, then they go away, the rain recedes. Some backyard noise, faint traffic and tram. One time you here me sighing (sorry). Some minimal clipping at thunder peaks, sorry again, but i think it's very usable anyway and contains a lot of material. This recording was taken from the balcony of an apartment in johor bahru malaysia on september 30th 2022 at about 1:30pm. It was monsoon season but not raining and the weather was hazy and muggy. The recording features the drone of a busy city punctuated by a whippersnipper, a building site, birds, a light aeroplane and car horns. At around the 4:30 mark there's two loud motorcycles that race each other and echo around the city in a most glorious way. The recording was made with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5 portable recorder.

In the foreground, quiet noises from neighboring apartments can be heard as well as the calls of countless swallows who nest in the eves of the 19th century houses which this part of town is famed for. In the background, distant city traffic may be heard. These are the rear channels of a 4ch surround recording, conducted with a zoom h2, mic's set to 120° dispersion.

Rain & distant thunder around 8pm in warren, michigan (suburb of detroit). Recorded on a zoom h1n. Some faint traffic sounds & a bit of white noise coming from an air-conditioner unit. Zoom h1n was placed in my porch light compartment about 2 feet below our rain gutter. Most of the original hour long recording was ruined due to wind gust, but i edited it down to the only continuous 11 minutes without the gust of wind.

A field recording made as i walked on the north side of bloor st w, near shaw street in toronto on the evening of 29 may 2011. This is a commercial strip with many ethiopian bar-restaurants, outside of which men gather to smoke and have conversation. You can hear some of these as we pass along bloor, as well as the conversations of other passers-by. These sounds are pretty typical of this section of bloor on a fine spring evening. Recorded with a roland r05 and accessory stereo directional microphone.

Walking on wood floor, medium pace, dress shoes. You can hear mild traffic noises outside. Recording with mxl 990 condenser, mic near the floor, used x-hum and z-noise plugins to clean it up. A light thunderstorm in carrboro, nc. Not too much wind or heavy rain, but some very good thunder claps. As the thunder slowly fades away, some distant traffic and a siren can be heard. Recorded on a zoom h2. This was uploaded as vorbis instead of flac or wav because it's quite long but i thought people might find it useful to have the whole thing. Some intelligent de-clipping was also performed in audacity to remove some slight distortion from the loudest claps.

Includes a quick pop-in to the quiet lobby of the post office. I'm pretty happy with the recording overall, but the road noise sometimes sounds a bit muddied.

Not loopable as the wind picks up over time and is noticeable when you loop back to beginning. Light editing in reaper (eq down some wind sounds, splicing out distant traffic). Recorded from my apartment, second floor. This starts with a few bolts of lightning during the end of a typical early summer afternoon and ends up on a pretty huge thunderstorm including hail. I wish i could have recorded more but the storm was getting so important, i had to close my window.

Night storm in evosmo-thessaloniki (part 1) with more than 30 lightning strikes and thunders in a period of 20 minutes. The recording was made by me with the zoom handy recorder h2 (open window of my apartment). Early morning rain heard inside of a car in a busy parking lot. Sounds of people walking past, car doors opening and closing, cars pulling in and out, distant traffic on the surrounding roads going by including cars, trucks and busses. Occasional honks. Occasional audible talk-radio in a car parked near by.

Long easy rain. Recorded from my front porch the evening of may 22, 2018. Almost half an hour; slice it up to use your favorite parts. Rain slows down around 3:00. Some distant thunder around 16:20. Look out for a few small ambient noises like splashes or traffic. A perfect audio bed under your sound design of a rainy scene. Or layer it to create a storm.

Quiet urban residential area in tokyo at about 2 am in the late summer (october, i think). You can hear far off traffic, some night insects and a drunk guy who came to close to my hidden mics to take a whiz. Excluding the peeing guy, quiet parts are perfect for looping (for ambient background sounds in video or audio works). The peeing guy might actually be useful, so i didn't cut it out. Faithfully recorded with a stereo mic pair placed at a 90 degree angle. The left-right balance was adjusted and the stereo field was expanded later to fix the lopsided sided flatness of the original recording. Other than that, the recording is unprocessed.

On many days i take a two mile walk from my house to my job. One gorgeous day i took my zoom h1 and sampled audio at various points during this walk. To avoid footsteps, i recorded each location standing still. In this file i gradually crossfade between the different locations. The walk begins on a suburban street, goes past a park where children are playing baseball, then a busy intersection, then a factory with open windows. A couple planes can be heard overhead. The last thing in the recording is the door of my job opening. ----recorded with internal microphones of a zoom h1.

This sound is about 9 hours long from the evening 13rd of april 2014 to the morning on 14th of april. First 2-3 hours aeroplanes passed by. Birds singing out my window in atchison kansas, an american robin, a chimney swift, and some others i'm not sure of. You can hear the neighbor kid's tv on the other side of the wall in the background along with the roar of distant trains and traffic. Recorded at just before 06:00 this morning with lifecam hd300 about 4 feet from the windows. Edited in goldwave with a highpass filter cutting down some of the rumble below 70hz.
